Working to build your Profile

Getting into a top global university takes more than just good academic grades (sadly, your 95% won’t do all the talking). Universities are on the lookout for well-rounded applicants—those with strong academics and meaningful extracurriculars. But many students only start preparing after 12th grade for undergraduate admissions, or in their 3rd or 4th year of college for postgrad—basically when the clock’s already ticking. At Right Choice Consultants, we help you start early, build a standout profile, and turn those dream university pins on your vision board into real offer letters.

Choosing the Right Country, University & Course

Picking a country, university, and course isn’t like picking toppings for your pizza (though both can cause decision paralysis). From “Should I go to Canada or Australia?” to “Is Psychology my calling or just a phase?”, we get it—it’s a lot. That’s why we’re here to help you sort the serious from the silly and guide you to a choice that actually suits your future (and your passport).

At Right Choice Consultants, we also help secure government and private organization scholarships on a case-by-case basis, depending on your eligibility. Always check with your institution and consult us to explore all your options before relying on family funds or loans.

At Right Choice Consultants, we help you every step of the way: from writing standout university essays, crafting a compelling Statement of Purpose (SOP), and preparing solid Letters of Recommendation (LOR), to sorting your student visa, financial documents, and scholarship essays.

We also offer training for both university and visa interviews (because “Tell us about yourself” is never as easy as it sounds), and we handle all the back-and-forth with universities too. Basically, we’re your backstage crew for a successful study abroad show.

Study Abroad FAQs

Most universities require qualifications equivalent to a U.S. Bachelor’s (Honours) degree, which typically involves a four-year programme. This means a minimum of 16 years of formal education. In the Indian context, this usually refers to completing a professional, four-year degree such as engineering or similar courses.

If you’re looking to pursue an MBA in the U.S., approximately 20% of U.S. universities do accept candidates with just 15 years of education.

However, for those wishing to pursue an MS, the best approach to maximise eligibility for U.S. graduate schools is to pursue a postgraduate degree or PG Diploma in India. A one-year, university-affiliated programme can bridge the gap and make up for the fourth year of a U.S. undergraduate degree.

GPA stands for Grade Point Average and is typically measured on a scale of 0-4, with 4 being the highest possible score. It is the equivalent of the Indian percentage system (0-100%). Converting this can be tricky, so it is recommended that when you submit your details to universities, you include your score, the highest score in your class, the lowest score, and the average score. This will allow the institutions to calculate your GPA accurately.

The number of credit hours required for a degree can vary by university. Typically, a Bachelor’s degree is equivalent to 120-150 credit hours, while a Master’s programme generally requires 30-36 credit hours.

In the UK, students typically complete thirteen years of pre-university education, compared to the twelve years followed in India. To directly enter an undergraduate programme in the UK, exceptional marks from one of the two Central Boards (CBSE or ICSE) or an equivalent qualification, or the completion of the first year of an Indian degree programme, are generally required.

For those who don’t yet meet these qualifications, there are a variety of foundation courses available, ranging from four months to a year. These courses provide the necessary preparation, and applicants must meet both the general and specific course requirements for admission.

Accredited British MBA schools, particularly those recognised by the Association of MBAs, typically require applicants to have a minimum of 3 years of work experience for their MBA programmes. However, for those with limited work experience, there are specialised Master’s programmes available. These programmes cover areas such as general management, accounting, finance, human resources, and managing information systems, and they are designed for applicants with less professional experience.

UCAS, or the Universities and Colleges Admission Service, is a national online system through which applications for undergraduate studies in the UK are submitted. Students complete a single UCAS form, which allows them to apply to up to six universities and courses, saving both time and money compared to making multiple separate applications. UCAS forms are available at all British Council offices in India for self-funded students.

Most UK universities accept the Indian three-year graduation system for entry into postgraduate courses. An Indian bachelor’s degree such as B.A., B.Com., or B.Sc. is typically considered equivalent to a British Bachelor (Ordinary) Degree.

However, certain courses or universities may require a qualification equivalent to a British Bachelor (Honours) Degree, which necessitates 16 years of formal education. This may involve an additional year after graduation or a four-year degree like B.E., B.Tech., or other similar courses.

For most UK universities, a strong first degree from a reputed Indian university, or an equivalent qualification, is crucial for eligibility.

In Australia, the Group of 8 (Go8) refers to a prestigious group of universities that are often compared to the Ivy League in the U.S. These universities are among the largest, oldest, and most respected in

Australia, consistently ranking at the top for academic excellence.

The Go8 universities are:

1. University of Adelaide
2. Australian National University
3. University of Melbourne
4. Monash University
5. University of New South Wales
6. University of Queensland
7. University of Sydney
8. University of Western Australia

When applying for graduate programs in Australia, most universities accept the Indian three-year bachelor’s degree as equivalent to an Australian Bachelor (Ordinary) Degree. Degrees such as B.A., B.Com., and B.Sc. are generally considered sufficient for entry into most Master’s or Graduate Diploma courses. However, some courses or universities may require qualifications equivalent to an Australian Bachelor (Honours) Degree. This usually means either a Honours degree (e.g., B.A. (Hons.), B.Com. (Hons.)) or 16 years of formal education. This can be achieved by pursuing an additional year after graduation or enrolling in a four-year degree like B.E., B.Tech., etc.

For PhD and Postgraduate Diplomas, a recognised Master’s degree in the relevant field is essential. PhD applications are assessed on an individual basis, but a strong academic background is crucial.

The exams you need to take for studying abroad can vary based on the country, university, and specific program you’re applying for. Some of the most common exams include the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) for English proficiency and the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). For graduate-level programs in the USA, you may also need to take the GRE (Graduate Record Examination) or GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test). To ensure you meet all the requirements for your chosen study destination, it’s essential to conduct thorough research and consult with an experienced study abroad advisor.

For Premium and Top Global Universities, including the Ivy League, admissions often start as early as grade 8 with Right Choice Consultants Mentorship Programme. This early start focuses on building your profile from school. For other universities, it is recommended to begin the application process at least 6-12 months before your start date. This allows ample time for gathering all required documents, such as transcripts and recommendation letters, taking necessary exams (like language proficiency tests), and meeting application deadlines. Starting early not only streamlines the application process but also enhances your chances of getting into your desired program.

It’s best to start your application process at least a year in advance. This gives you sufficient time to gather documents, meet entry requirements, and prepare for life abroad.

Keep in mind, academic calendars vary across countries. Here’s a general idea of when intakes begin:

Australia
  • Semester 1: Late February or early March to late May or early June
  • Semester 2: Late July or early August through to November
New Zealand
  • Semester 1: February to June
  • Semester 2: July to November
United Kingdom
  • Term 1: September to December
  • Term 2: January to April
  • Term 3: April to June
United States
  • Fall Term: August to December
  • Spring Term: January to April
  • Summer Term: May to August

Please note that these dates are general timelines – exact start dates can differ by institution. Always confirm with the specific university or college you plan to apply to.
